The first one - "brother steve’s tinwhistle pages" - really does look like a useful discovery.

Re: What’s the Best/Most Popular Tin Whistle Tutorial?

I would heartily recommend tracking down a copy of Éamonn Jordan’s ‘Whistle and Sing’ (vol. 1 or 2). Sadly, both volumes are now out of print, but there’s a serious plan to reissue the first in massively updated form.

Skip the flute tutors, for now, as you’re asking about ‘whistle’, these, avoiding slagging certain others ~

Re: What’s the Best/Most Popular Tin Whistle Tutorial?

Éamonn Jordan’s "Whistle and Sing vols. 1 or 2" ~ lovely little books for ‘support’ material, but not as tutors, as there are no accompanying recordings for the ears. I can’t recommend highly enough the combination of a good tutor, living is best, and an accompanying collection. Another that offers a great variety of tunes is ~

"Matt Cunningham’s Dance Music Of Ireland"
298 traditional Irish dance tunes, w/ chords
Dave Mallinson Publications, 1999
http://www.mally.com/
ISBN: 1-899512-45-4

& LOTS & LOTS OF RECORDINGS!!! :-) It doesn’t hurt to expose yourself to dance too, make it physical…

It doesn’t hurt to expose yourself to dance too, make it physical… ~ ceolachan
Reels, jigs, hornpipes, polkas, waltzes, etc. are all dances and the music to accompany the dance acquires the same name - it would probably be an improvement if all tune sessions had dancers too, though often space and the availability of the dancers could also be a problem .. a digression .. :-x

Re: What’s the Best/Most Popular Tin Whistle Tutorial?

Vinnie Kilduff has a video tutorial out. The same company who produced peter brownes and tommy hayes.

I dunno if they still do it.

Gerry O Connor (banjo also features on the video)

Tin Whistle Tutorial?

Vinnie Kilduff is good.
I have not seen the video though.
In my humble opinion Geraldine Cotter comes up with excellent tunes.
Grey Larsen is a wonderful instructor in person.
His book is an encyclopedia. Very thorough.
But no one has done it quite like Fintan.
Just lsten to Cillian Vallely!
