Re: Sporting Paddy

I am still in the process of learning that tune. You don’t need a teaching video, just break the tune into tiny sections, and learn it in groups of 4 notes. Figure out 4, practice them, figure out 4 more, practice all 8 you know, then 4 more and practice all 12 you know, and so on. Eventually you will learn the whole tune. This is how I do it, anyway. This girl is quite a good whistler, and her videos have been very helpful to me. The first tune she is playing, laurel tree, is also a fine tune to learn. I think the two go well together on whistle.

Heres the link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MoiKwM5s_9Q I think this video is a fine example to learn from.

I liked this one too. Didn’t care for the intro he did very much, but he plays the tune very nicely, as well. Makes me want a copeland low D!

I hope these videos can help you learn the tune. Good luck!

Re: Sporting Paddy

I’m not a big fan of either the first or the third clip, but the second one has some nice whistling! Have a look on Youtube for Tiarnan O Duinnchinn the piper playing Sporting Paddy…

Re: Sporting Paddy

Gooseinthenettles, if they are both rubbish (there were actually three), then please share a better one so I can have a better reference to learn from. Or, make a video of yourself playing it better, so we can learn it the correct way.

Re: Sporting Paddy

I looked that up and favourited it, Pat. Thanks for sharing. I like the next tune after, also

Re: Sporting Paddy

I agree with hughy that the first video is a good one to learn the tune from. The playing may not be world class, but the rhythm is solid, all the notes are there and the ornamentation is tidy. It’s not often I get to play in a session with anyone higher than that standard.
