Re: Name for Kerry Polka, Please.

Tommy,
You know, it is in a round about way, plus a middle part.
That Title will do me. I think the way round I played it, is
how Jackie Daly did. And Ben Gunn and Hammy Hamiliton
played in in a house session up around Larne, many many, Moons ago ; )
Still I will use that title, Many Thank’s !

Re: Name for Kerry Polka, Please.

That’s pretty much exactly as Jackie plays it Fiddle4 - except for that c nat you have put at the end of the third line. It’s a c sharp! He calls it "O Nelly Nelly".

Re: Name for Kerry Polka, Please.

God, it must have been Ben Gunn and Hammy Hamiliton I got that C natural from.
They where in good form that night,,, Doing all sort’s of stuff with the music.
It might have been something to with the Kerry Gold, and I don’t mean Butter ; )

I was sure this was already here, but not as a 3 parter. Hmmmm… :-/

Sorry I didn’t comment sooner old friend, but I was busy and was also looking to see if I could find the earlier submission. It may have gone in the far past when some folks went completely, with everything - tune submissions and comments. I’m not sure, as there weren’t many, but ~ …

I’m still looking. I’ll be back! ;-)

Re: Name for Kerry Polka, Please.

"Neilí" / "Nelly" is the name of the slide version of this melody…

“Neilí” / “Nelly” :-/

There’s also the slide version of this melody…

Shtereo shlide! ~ in trying to edit the previous one I end up with two… :-P

Re: Name for Kerry Polka, Please.

Danni
I do think I have heard it as Nellys ?
As my pupil wants to play it like me, I’ll just use that name, and call it an
East Antrim version. I mean, Donegal dose that all the time : )
Best,
Jim.

“Neilí’s”

Yup! That’s one of the names it goes by… :-D
