Also has anyone else recorded a bunch of his tunes?

If you want a list of recordings of his tunes, pick any "Paddy Fahy/Fahey" tune here on this website and look at the number of recordings it connects to. The list will be quite extensive. He has no commercial recordings as such that I know of , but there are recordings of him going around.

I second leoj. The Kane Sisters have recorded loads of Paddy Fahy's tunes. Martin Hayes has recorded at least a few as well.

Breda Keville is more directly influenced by Paddy Fahey. http://www.claddaghrecords.com/www/product.asp?pID=2161&cID=16 They are from the same area of East Galway.

The private recordings of Mr. Fahey are sometimes heard on Clare FM.

Re: Paddy Fahy? Paddy Fahy Tunes?

There are no commercial recordings of Paddy Fahey. I know of three recordings of him that you may be able to find if you look hard enough.

One is of him and Paddy Carty and a few others playing in a pub in the 1970's.

Another is a recording of him playing all the tunes he had written by 1995, this was done as part of a thesis on his music by Maria Holohan and is available to hear in University of Limerick. Getting a copy of it is another thing.

The other recording I know of is one that is sometimes played on Clare FM and was made in the 1970's by an American collector. It's archived in an American University.

Listening to Fahey playing his own tunes is quite an experience. He plays quite slowly, often tunes his fiddle down lower than usual and pitches some notes slightly flatter than they would normally be pitched. The Kane Sisters play his tunes a good bit faster than he does. Breda Keville is indeed much closer in spirit to Fahey's style. Her album is one of my favourites in recent years.

Hope that's of help.

Re: Paddy Fahy? Paddy Fahy Tunes?

Oh he's written around 60 tunes, at least there's around 60 notated in that thesis in UL. He's probably written a few more since.

Re: Paddy Fahy? Paddy Fahy Tunes?

There are actually quite a few more recordings of him floating about, Breandan Breathnach recorded him as did others, stuff going back a good while of himself playing a few of his own tunes and a good few not his own as well. The Chris Delaney tape is easy to get if you contact the Uni of North Carolina (it used to be anyway, a few dollar for a cassette copy).
Then there are pub recordings with Carty, John Joe Forde etc. There are a few tunes attributed to him that are not on the Holohan tape.
