ITM in Korea

ITM in Korea

So I just decided to accept a position teaching English in Daegu, South Korea and I'm wondering where the craic is there. Has anyone here at the Session been there and found sessions/good Irish pubs, etc?

Check this thread: http://www.thesession.org/discussions/display/13690

I actually exchanged emails with "2nd moon." S/he wrote there weren't many people playing Irish music in Korea, but you will probably manage to find a few musos, probably in .

While Japan is obviously a better choice for Irish music, Korea is a better choice for many other reasons: everything is reasonably priced, it's not very difficult to learn Hangul, people are friendly and helpful to foreigners, etc. You will love the country.

Re: ITM in Korea

Sorry, I mean "probably in Seoul area."

I've never been to Daegu, but I've met an Irish/Canadian girl who was teaching English there a few years ago. She didn't told me anything bad about the area.

Good luck!

Re: ITM in Korea

I've been to Korea twice a few years ago and didn't really see much ITM going on. However, I was eighteen at the time and hanging out with my Korean (ex)boyfriend and all his friends, so I wasn't really looking for ITM either. I was mostly in Seoul, Bucheon and Siheung, so maybe Daegu has ITM, who knows!
To add to slainte's comment, Korea is awesome and there is so much to do/see/eat/experience. If you have a soft spot for dogs, DON'T eat boshintang (dog soup). I got tricked into eating it and have been traumatized ever since! Otherwise, the food is amazing. Try not to go to American restaurants there (they have lots), because you'll be missing out on all the delicious Korean food!
