Is this similar to the icy sidewalk where you will be flat if you don't see sharp?

In Irish Traditional Music, Fs are naturally sharp and need to be artificially flattened on an oilstone.

here in North America the dial tone is an F (natural)

that's interesting granama - it just occurred to me that most of the Fs in our session are natural, otherwise our lone flute player gets bored and leaves, and then it's mainly fiddles (which also starts with "F")

if you say a note is sharp, are you supposed to say that in a cutting, knife-edged tone of voice?
