Morning! hoping that someone out there can offer some advice. My Dad has a large bodhran (a little over 20") and carries around everywhere in a black bin bag - asking for trouble really and doesn't look the part. Does anyone know where I can get a case locally (berkshire) or a good online place - all the sites i've been on only sell smaller cases.
Thanks for any help
Have you got a sewing machine? Or is that just me showing my age?
You just need a yard of sailcloth and a 30inch zip. (And a packet of new needles for the ones you'll break). Whatever you produce will be more stylish than a black binbag.
If my daughter made me anything like that I'd be made away.
I'd agree with Dave, katy. However a black bin-liner is a good way to disguise a bodhràn so your dad can sneak it into the middle of a session wothout being stopped at the door of the pub.
If your dad does what Joe does, and hides the bodhran underneath a leotard and a pair of gogo boots, then he might get past even the best session security.
I'm off to get a haircut, and probably to trim my magnificent beard, as this is a really bad time to look like Saddam Hussein.
A company that goes by the name of "Blue Heron" makes a fine case and will custom make one. they are very durable nylon with lots of padding and a zippered pocket for your tippers and pistol (for smart a** jokers on the session page) shoulder straps and a carry handle. Just do a google search on "Blue Heron Cases" and I think it will pop up. I beleive they are out of Colorado.

Re: bodhran case
Try and find a used snare drum case. Or just buy new at a music shop. Put a piece of foam inside.

Re: bodhran case
Who made the 20" bodhràn for him or where did he buy it? Maybe I'm being obvious but wouldn't they sell/make a case for it?
