Six comments

Released as a cassette in 1986, following the band’s victory in that year’s All-Ireland Fleadh, this album features the combined efforts of John Bowe, Roger Sherlock, Paul Gallagher, Bobby Casey, Brendan Mulkere, Adrian Burke, Kevin Taylor, Mick Whelan, Mick O’Connor and Tommy Keane.

The Thatch was a pub-cum-club at the southern end of the Holloway Road and subsequently became The Garage rock venue.

McKenna’s reels

Track 5 is two John McKenna reels, not the jig that is linked to above. Setting 3 followed by setting 2 from this link:

Thatch reels

The reel following the Banks of the Ilen on track 8 is the Humours of Scartaglen:

And this pair of tunes is known more famously as ‘the Thatch reels’.

Track 1 - Vincent Broderick reels

Actually the names for this set should be as follows: Midsummer’s Night, The Tinker’s Daughter and the Crock of Gold.
