Notes from CRÉ IV ~ Along with other tunes Breandan added to his 5 volume collection, the transcription for this slide is from the David Collins ms., written by or in the possession of David Collins of Abbeyfeale, County Limerick. Breathnach recieved it from Tom Barrett, a fiddler from Listowel, County Kerry, who was also source for some of the tunes found in CRÉ II.

C# or C natural ~ A Dorian or A Mixolydian

K: ADor ~ not having a recording there’s no way to be sure whether or not the original key given for this transcription was right, but I’ve given it as found in the book, with all C naturals, A Dorian… My sense of it is that it was likely A Mixolydian, as the others given above, and that the Cs would have all been sharp…

C# or C natural ~ A Dorian or A Mixolydian

I’d actually accompany this in E minor with the final chord of each part being a A open or major chord. I know, haters gonna hate, but it’s not in A just because it ends on an A.

It’s hardly e minor, but do as your will dictates… :-D
