Eggnog

A little Christmas song I thought up, I know its nothing special.

From the FAQ: "Can I submit my own compositions?"

Well… The Session isn’t really intended for that. If you do post one of your own compositions, then you must do your “penance”, so to speak, by balancing each original composition with about five trad tune settings.

Urgh, this is a mess.

For a start, G5 in bar 4??? If you’re in 3/4, this should be a G6. Also I’m not sure what the 3-bar interlude on the second line is for - it’s true that not all tunes have to be ‘conventional’ and have bars in multiples of 4, but I don’t see why this is here.

Here’s a tutorial on ABC if you’ve never used it before: http://abcnotation.com/

ElaineT has already mentioned the point about compositions from the site FAQs.

Well, at least…

…there’s a version with sensible note lengths in. No idea about the B part…will we ever get an answer?

Ok guys, I know it aint the best, I warned you guys about that in the description. I was just experimenting, but thank you for your comments. And if you wish to continue to alter please do.

Ah, so you were “just experimenting”?

Well, then it’s alright of course.
That’s just great. :-/

Why post it then? Why share it if it’s not that great? I do indeed wish to continue "altering" as the ABC you posted wasn’t very good. I’ve tidied it up, but nothing more.

I’m curious about the B part because the strict MIDI playback sounds odd, but am wondering what it is like played by a human.

Maybe this is actually meant to be a jig…?

You might be on to something there…

Or alternatively a 6/8 waltz?

Posted by .

Ah, a sauteuse then! Or does this term only apply to a 2/4 waltz? I’m not quite sure of this…

A 6/8 march

This is usually played as a march at a stately pace.
I know it in a slightly different, less quirky version.
j/k

I’d forgotten about this "experiment" until today
