The Bush on the Hill

This tune is also commonly played in the key of G. It’s a nice tune in that it uses the whole range. Rolls can be put in on any phrase like aga or FEF bits. Also instead of running down in thirds on the dfd cec bit, you could alternately play ~d3 ~c3 or ded cdc. Instead of rolling the first low A you could do a AGA or ABA as well. Despite looking like a fiddle only tune it can easily be played on flute by playing it all in the first octave. Here’s the tune in G as well, it’s a 50/50 chance as to what key this tune is played in. I’ve heard it in both keys just as often as the other.

‘nuff comments?

Nice one, Brad. You could keep going with the comments for all of me, but yeah, this is great! :)

I recently learned this tune off of a Green Linnett CD…25 Years of Irish Music. I can’t recall who’s version it is, but he’s a mando player, and I love the arrangement.

Nice tune! Seems to me I’ve heard the 3rd and 7th bars of the A part as | fed cdB | but I couldn’t tell you where I heard it that way. ~

The Bush On The Hill (jig)

This tune can be found in Bulmer and Sharply’s Music of Ireland (2:43) as "McGlinchy’s" from the playing of Jimmy McHugh. According to Randy Miller it is also known as "The Low Down"

Owenmore ceili band version

The version I submitted comes from "Owenmore ceili band" by Owenmore ceili band, track 2, 1st tune, maybe wrongly titled as "Owenmore jig". I thank Kenny about these news.
