The Banks Of The Allan

A good tune. Here it is in a setting by The Battlefield Band.

The Banks Of The Allan

It’s a lovely tune I’ve come across in a book, but never heard played. I’m surprised it’s not a popular session tune.

It’s pretty widely played in Scotland. I think its a Perthshire tune.

The Banks Of The Allan / The Tailor’s Thimble

There’s a slightly different version in O’Neill’s where it is entitled The Tailor’s Thimble:

And I found another similar setting at Dave Marshall’s Fiddletech site:

Composer?

I was intrigued to see the fiddler Gerry Harrington claim to have written this tune in the sleeve notes of their excellent album "The Smoky Chimney"

Banks of the Allan

There is a River Allan near to where I live in Perthshire. There’s also a pub called The Allanbank, at which there used to be a regular session. However, if I’m not mistaken, there are a few River Allans around!

Banks of the Allan

In The Gesto Collection (1895) this tune is called "Rothiemurchus Daughter".

The Pub Jig

A jig played by Johnny Cunningham in his solo playing with Celtic Fiddle Festival

It’s Johnny’s fairly idiosyncratic version of "The Banks Of The Allan".

oh thank you so much!!! I always search this tune with the pub name and I didn’t find some minimal information, so The Pub Jig is an another name of "The Banks Of The Allan"???

..probably only to Johnny.
