What I really want to know is who is Dai Promise and what’s the story behind the gondola?

When I was a young lad in Merthyr Tydfil in the 1960’s there was a local councillor who,during election time,made speeches in which he constanly repeated, "and I promise you this…….,and I promise you that………",so he got the nickname Dai Promise.Once,during a council meeting when they were discussing what they could do with the lake at Cyfarthfa park in the town,one councillor said,
’ I move move that we put gondolas on the lake as a tourist attraction"
Dai promise got on his hind legs and said the immortal words,
"I move that we have a pair so they can mate"
