Great tune, great title. On The Road from Ballinakill, this is paired with the Gneevgulia Reel (aka Pride of Rathmore) by Gerry Conroy (Woodford, Co. Galway, sw of Portumna) and Mary Rafferty on whistles. One of my favorite tracks from the cd. Thanks Gian Marco, and thanks to to Jack for Mr. Noonan’s nice setting.

*Moloney’s*

Dinn2, I wonder where the alternative title "Eddie Moloney’s No.2" comes from. The Moloneys, the Conroys, and the Rafferty’s are all from the parish of Ballinakill, East Galway, so no wonder this tune is named after the most influential musician of the area. I’ve heard Eddie’s son Sean play the flute and talk about East Galway music, so I’m curious. And, what’s "Eddie Moloney’s No.1"?

Mama’s Pet (East Galway Version): http://www.thesession.org/tunes/1290

Eddie Moloney

Some nice sound clips of his flute playing can be found on Rich Lafferty’s flute tape page: http://www.lafferty.ca/music/irish/flute-geezers

Moloney, not Maloney, of course. I believe he’s been more influential than Paddy Carty, another flute legend from East Galway.

Slainte ill tell you when I learn it!
My teacher just gave me the tune and put this name on it.
I dont know were he learned it or got the name.

Altnerative version from Sean Moloney

Heard this particular version from flute playing friend Regina Elling (Ex-Limerick Junction & Ex-Friel’s Kitchen). According to her the tune comes from the repertoire of flute player Sean Moloney, who has family bounds with the Ballinakill Moloneys.
