Twelve comments

I could not find this tune through an advanced search so I hope someone might recognise it and have a name for it. Collected over 30 years ago I have recently revived it. in particular I like the ‘B’ music.

This tune reminds me of "The Humours of Whiskey" but is different.

Thanks for the link Slainte, this is obviously a variant. there are three other versions on the session and I am working on putting them all together as a set. It is important to get them in the right order to make the most of chord changes etc. I will post the links in the order that I feel is right in a few days or so. comments will be most welcome.

The final tune :- http://www.thesession.org/tunes/46

The Full ABC is as follows but I have turned the first version into a three part slip jig by repeating the first 4 bars and then the second 4 bars. When playing the tune I did this instinctively.

B2A BEE BEE | B2A BGE FED | B2A BEE BEE | DFG A2G FED :||
B2A Bee B3 | B2A Beg fed | B2A BEE BEE | DFG A2G FED :||
G2A B2A BcA | G2A B2A eAA | G2A B2A B2d | eAA A2G FED :||

G3 BdB cBA | G3 BGB AFD | G3 BGB ABc | dcB ABG FED :||
B/2c/2BA BGE E3 | B/2c/2BA BGE FGA | B/2c/2BA BGF EFG | A3 ABG FED :||

G2A Bee Bee | GFG BGB AFD | G2A Bee Bee | dcd A2G FED :||
d2e fdf ecA | dcd fdf gfe |1 d2e fdf ecA | Bcd A2G FED :||2 d2e fga ecA | Bcd A2G FED ||

gfe fbb fbb | gfe fbb fga | gfe fBB efg | agf efd cBA :||
d2e fdf ecA | d2e fed gfe | d2e fdf efg | agf efd cBA :||
finally ending with an extra | d3 d3 ||

The weakest possible link is between tunes two and three but I like the progression from Em to D major then through Bm finally ending with a tune predominately on higher notes ending in a glorious D major again.

The Silvermore slip jig

I found this in O’Neill’s Music of Ireland (#1141). Sounds quite similar to "The Humours of Whiskey" ~ http://www.thesession.org/tunes/46 ~ with the parts reversed.

We had to play this at mass a while back but our teacher was nervous about the title in case the priest asked. So, for one day only, it was the Humours of Galilee. :D

amended abc

I have made some necessary amendments to the 4th tune in my combined set notably bars 1 & 2 ’ in the B’ music and clarified the ending.

Humours Of Whiskey

X:4 from Patsy Touhey, recorded on separate occasions; he used the H of W title for both but the 2nd part differed.
