This is the slow reel that comes before The Haggis http://www.thesession.org/tunes/4535 on Capercaillie’s "Crosswinds". You can hear a clip of the tune here (track 5) http://www.amazon.com/Crosswinds-Capercaillie/dp/B000005CN9.

I don’t have a name for the tune as Capercaillie didn’t provide info on each tune in the set. If it’s trad, it looks as though it’s been changed substantially to suit the playing style, but I suspect it might be a Donald Shaw composition, or possibly Charlie McKerron. I’ve e-mailed the band to try and find out. If I ever find out the name, I’ll edit the details accordingly.

First time through, bar 7 of the B-part is |e2de A2GA|

I see the threat worked…

Yeah - happy now? :-)

I was surprised to find that this was an old Gaelic song. I also found some other transcriptions of the tune on the net. They all have a different B-part from the Capercaillie version (I assume the band changed the tune to make it less air-like and more like a slow reel type structure):

You can hear a clip of the Old Blind Dogs version at http://www.amazon.com/Four-Floor-Old-Blind-Dogs/dp/B000ROAM48 - closer to the original than the Capercaillie setting I posted.

This page was in a bit of a mess when the website converted to the new format, but I’ve tidied it up. The abc/sheetmusic at the top is now in the following order:

X: 1 = Four Blind Dogs version (this is the standard setting I like to play these days)

X: 2 = Capercaillie version (this is non-standard and the rhythm is straightened out, but still nice)

X: 3 = Gow

X: 4 = O’Farrell’s

X: 5 = Caledonian Museum (key Bmin)

X: 6 = Flute Tutor Glasgow (key Emin)

### The Maid that Tends the Goats

I’m looking forward to hearing the new group Four Blind Dogs; I hear they’re touring with the Girls of the Lough, All Tanned and the Chieftones. :-)

Oops - well spotted. "Old" :-)

Wow, someone actually reads my posts. Nigel, get a life!
