This is a different tune than the one already posted by the same name. I learned it this weekend from a flute player who learned it from the Planxty Collection.(1st in a set with The Frost is All Over and The Gander in the Pratie Hole) It can be heard at our local session in Burlington by one of our pipers.

Hare in the Corn / ABC error
ABC-savants,
the tune-tronic at concertina.net doesn't like this ABC I submitted. Being ABC-illiterate, can anyone tell me what's wrong with it? While we're at it, does anyone have dots or the ABC for Rathawaun, a slide which (I think) is related to this tune?

I also call this "The Hare in the Corn". Anybody got the music for the other "Hare in the Corn" from that great Julia C/ Denis M recording "Star Above the Garter"? They play it after "Rathawaun", which is basically the same tune as given here. Could it be the names got mixed up in the album production?

As given in "The Star Above the Garter", though maybe there was a confusion in the actual order of listing/listening... I've a transcription for that 'other' and if it isn't on site here I'll add it. I'll also check the two names out to see if there is some way to clarifty this confusion. Mind you, I think I've played at least six very different jiggy tunes under this name, and a reel too, maybe even a hornpipe... Anyway ~ "I'll be back!"

"Rathawaun" - agreement down the generations...
Dónal Murphy, Matt Cranitch and Tommy O’Sullivan have the same order for track 2 of their recording “Sliabh Notes”, name to tune. They are in agreement with their sources – Julia Clifford and Denis Murphy. The spelling differs for the third in their set – “The Hair in the Corn”…

The Hare in the what???
Planxty plays the tune listed here as The Hare in the Corn in a set with The Frost is all Over (aka Kitty Lie Over) and Gander in the Pratie Hole. Mick O'Brien and Caoimhin O'Raghallaigh play the same tune, which they call Rathawaun, in a set with something else called the Hare in the Corn. This has already been discussed above.
On his O'Farrell Meets O'Sullivan album, Jerry plays a slide called The Hagg in the Corner, which sounds nothing at all like the tune listed here. Other than that it happens a slide in Dmix. So what, you say. Well, on his An Phib album, Dicky Deegan plays... wait for it, a slide called the Hare in the Corn. Which sounds nothing at all like the tunes of that name played by Planxty or by Mick and Caoimhin, but it sounds a lot like a three part version of the four part slide on Jerry's album.
I guess my point is that these tunes can be called whatever you want. Because clearly no one actually knows. Does anyone here know anything about these tunes?

There is some attempt to try to trace the earlier recordings, but the mistakes happen on all counts. People forget, people get confused, people misunderstand ~ and sometimes they shy away from calling yet another tune 'gan ainm'. Those with gifted with an exceptional way with lifting the music or the luck to have been recorded and highly influential ~ well, in these cases are no different than the rest of us, if not more confused considering the amount of tunes they work up and the amount of playing they do... So, limitations? ~ yes, but, if it can be found and verified, at least the earliest confusion would be the wisest selection...

The following version has interesting differences, especially the B-part, but damned if Michael can remember where he got it from... If anyone has any idea of a similar take I'd love to hear about it, such as a recording or transcription or your own similar take on it...
Michael Dunn is likely the current longest serving and oldest Irish fiddler in Lancashire, a great character and good craic... He loves dancing as much as he does the music, and even when he's in dire pain he'll play ~ music or dance, and you'd get hell if you tried to hold him back... Here's Michael's take on this:
