Henchy's Delight

This is a nice old-fashioned jig which is on both Catherine & John McEvoy's "The Kilmore Fancy" and Maeve Donnelly & Peader O'Loughlin's "The Thing Itself." I intentionally leave out grace notes: this kind of simple tune in fact works better when we avoid too much ornamentation.

Henchy's Delight

I don't know another name, but this tune is included '"Unknown" No 104 in the tune book "The Dance Music of Willie Clancy", ed. Pat Mitchell, Mercier Press, Dublin & Cork (for Na Piobairi Uilleann), 1976.
Captain O'Neill on p 104 of Irish Folk Music: a fascinating hobby says he got this tune from the whistling of an East Clare man Daniel Rogers, who learnt it in New York from a Co Clare fiddler Tom Hinchy, hence the name 'Hinchy's delight".
