Casey's Pig

This tune is *not* a hornpipe, but a highland from Co. Fermanagh. I transcribed this setting from fiddler Gerry O'Connor's Journeyman cd.

Brian Conway also plays Casey's Pig on his First Through the Gate cd, as follows:

X:1
T: Casey's Pig
S: B. Conway, First Through the Gate
R: Highland
M: 4/4
L: 1/8
K: G
D<GGD EDG2|BdgB A2 A2 |{F}-G2 GD EDG2|E<GDB, G,2 G,>E|
D<GGD EDG2|BdgB {d}cBAB|G2 GD EDG2|E<GDB, G2 G2|
gabg d2 d2|gabg e_e=ef|gbeg dgB2|A_A=AB G2 G>B|
ga b/a/g d2 Bd|gabg [c2e2] [c2e]|g/b/g e/g/e dg B2|A_A=AB G2 GE||

On the e_e=e and A_A=A bits, Conway is using his fourth finger to hit all three notes--starting on the note, sliding it down slightly, then back up to "smear" the e and the A, respectively. Listen to the cd to get the proper feel.

I recorded Gerry O'Connor's beautiful playing of this tune from The Late Session some months ago. It's still in the archive and you can listen to it: http://www.rte.ie/radio1/thelatesession/rams/19december.ram (around 16:30) Paul O'Shaughnessy also recorded a lovely version of the tune on his duet album with Paul McGrattan.

Strathspey

This was originally “The Duke Of Gordon’s Birthday”, a very well-known Scottish strathspey.

Last Set, Last Tune

Video from Scoil Éigse Master Tutors’ concert at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2007. Casey's Pig is the last tune of the last set, you can skip the end. Lovely playing here.
