A jaunty hornpipe from Kerr's Merry Melodies,vol. 3.

I don't understand why this one is notated in F major, when every single E in the tune is flat, and the tonal center of the tune is B-flat. The first four notes of this tune are clearly heard as a run up the scale from the dominant to the tonic. If this were in F major, those tones would run from the tonic up to the subdominant, and it just doesn't sound that way to me.

Heh. You've obviously never tried to submit a tune in Bb then...

You can't sumbit a tune in Bflat.

# Posted on January 16th 2006 by dafydd

Why not? Is there a reason I don't know about, or is it just the notation software on the site?

Jeremy (site administrator) hasn't added Bb major to the list of keys in the submission menu (not a very common key for Irish trad music). I bet he'd add it if someone asked nicely....

This is a nice tune. It's much like the style of James Hill's compositions.

Bb ~ relative key g minor...

However, you could have entered it in the relative key of g minor, two flats, Bb & Eb, which is available from the drop down meny...
