low whistles

low whistles

Hello I’ve recently picked up a low G whistle and was looking for any advice or pointers in the playing.

Re: low whistles

Make your fingers very large, long and wide

Re: low whistles

thanks for tht tip gtag. copo me fingers are already that way lol. goes with the territory when you’re my size.

Re: low whistles

Reading your Bio it looks like you have no Whistle experience, I would suggest getting a High D and learning a couple tunes before going to the lower guys, plus a G whistle is almost useless in a session (but not completly). Kerry Whistles is a good place to go for videos. You may want to pick up some books, I suggest Bill Ochs‘, Grey Larsen’s, or L.E McCullough’s tutor or all three to give different perspectives. if you are 6’6“ a G whistle should be no problem, I am 6’2” and have been known to play Bouzoukis using Mandlin fingerings abd Low D Whistles using standard grip.
