Re: Can anybody name this tune?

It could be a version of “The White Cockade”

Re: Can anybody name this tune?

This appears to be a quickstep composed by James Scott Sknner called “The Lovat Scouts”. I think I have it on a record of Scots traditional musicians called The Caledonian Companion.

It was also used as the air to a song called “The Back o’ Reres Hill” by Scots music hall singer Andy Stewart (it was also published in Kerr’s Andy Stewart Album). The same melody was collected from Dundee singer Stuartie Foy for the same song, and can be found in the book Songs and Ballads of Dundee.

Re: Can anybody name this tune?

Wouldn’t that be better in the tunes section ‘c’? That way it won’t disappear into cyber nothingness.

One thing or t’other ~ ???

Yes Nox, yes, Yes, YES!!! ~ But not his transcription!!! And I was unsure with Dafydd’s previous contribution, though it is in jig time… So, I was just setting up his transcription in 2/4 so the comparison with the Scott Skinner tune in D would make more direct sense. So, do you think it should go in the ‘Comments’ of Dafydd’s transcription, which is in my mind decidedly different enough, or have a place of its own, which would be my inclination??? 😏

Later this afternoon ~

Besides, I can’t submit another tune for awhile because I submitted one yesterday afternoon, a lovely old-fashioned hornpipe… This will give me some time to do a decent bit of work on this lovely old number before submitting it later this afternoon, hopefully…

Re: Can anybody name this tune?

Any Old Time did it on The Phoenix, as Duggan’s, as a slide, also.

If you don’t think I did it justice, add another take in the ‘Comments’… The more the merrier…hopefully… 😉

Re: Can anybody name this tune?

I was holding back on that side of things dafydd… Don’t forget to add something in the ‘comments’ for the tune…
