Flute recording

Flute recording

Please, tell me some advice for flute recording in studio. What mic is supposed to use, how far must be flute from the mic while recording, is it good to add some effects, and what effects, and other advices that you have for recording…

Thank you,

Ivan

I rarely praise anything, but that’s a great article!

Re: Flute recording

Every sound guy i’ve ever worked with (wnd i’ve worked with some supposedly ‘great’ engineers) has got no clue when it comes to mike-ing up a wooden flute (if that’s what you’re talking about). And i’ve indeed tried many of the techniques mentioned in the article and they simply do not work the same on a wooden flute.

The most effective way of recording a flute that i’ve found is simply a dynamic mike VERY close to , and above, the embrouchure. I’ve talked to a fair amount of ‘big name’ flute players and this seems to be the consensus method.
