Kilfenora Slide ABCs

Kilfenora Slide ABCs

I’m trying to locate the ABCs for a tune in 12/8 that goes something like this:

D|G2B B2D G2B B2D|G2B BAB cBc A2D| …..

I’ve done an advanced search here and also checked out the Norbeck site but can’t find the tune. OK I know I can write it out but but this takes time and also I might end up creating a duplicate if the tune is already here. If I don’t hear from any of you tune experts out there in the next day or so I’ll have a go at it myself and submit it to the tunes section.

Sliabh Geal gCua

Hi Can anyone help me pronounce this slow air name correctly and tell me what the correct English translation is. I am using it at All Ireland Fleadh in the 11 and under division and don’t want to embarrass myself. Thanks JConti

Re: Kilfenora Slide ABCs

And there was me thinking someone had found the missing slide so quickly! Looks like we have a crossed post here but anyway details on this song and its composer are given at http://www.ballinagree.freeservers.com/mileadha.html. Sliabh Geal translates to a bright mountain and Cua is its name.

Re: Kilfenora Slide ABCs

Are you sure this isn’t Spanish? ~ or Italian? 😏

Re: Kilfenora Slide ABCs

No, it’s definitely a Kilfenora tune from the repertoire of the old céilí band (50s and 60s). I’ve heard Gerry Lynch doing a great rendition of it. It’s too late now but I’ll have a go at transcribing it tomorrow.

Re: Kilfenora Slide ABCs

I look forward to seeing it… Kilfenora, place or ceili band, neither is famous for slides, though I have danced Kerry, Cork, Limerick and Tipperary sets there on the odd occasion ~ but there were a few single jigs floating about, and other unusual numbers… 😉

Re: Kilfenora Slide ABCs

Just remembered, I have their old recordings… I’ll have to check those out ~ but later, it’s late…

Re: Kilfenora Slide ABCs

It’s probably a bit like Sligo polkas as opposed to Sliabh Luachra ones, the tune is called a slide but I think the feel is less Kerry and more like a single jig.

Re: Kilfenora Slide ABCs

Is this the one?

d g bb d g bb d g bb ab cbc afd gfg bge ceg c a bge def g bag
very rough, sorry thinking while at my desk?

Re: Kilfenora Slide ABCs

Eureka! This is the one which has 3 parts. I’ll try and get it posted in the next hour or so.

Re: Kilfenora Slide ABCs

Here it is at https://thesession.org/tunes/7541/comments. I entered it as “Kilfenora Slide” but the system removed “Slide” so the details section misleadingly connects it to many unrelated recordings but this is something that I think occurs from time to time!

Re: Kilfenora Slide ABCs

What about ‘shlide’? Are the Clare lot actually calling it a ‘slide’?
