Anyone in the Netherlands??

Anyone in the Netherlands??

Alright everybody, How’s it going ? This post is especially for all the sessioneers in the Netherlands. I live in Almere and I’ve been learning tenor banjo for about 2 and a half years. I’m teaching myself and I’m doing ok, I think (it’s very hard to rate my own playing as we are our own worst critics). Like everyone I have good days and bad days. I can’t play fast but I’m sure that will all come in the future. Anyway I’ve been thinking alot lately about trying to meet up with some other musicians. Nothing too serious, just to play a couple of tunes and maybe even learn a thing or two. I’ve never played tunes with anyone before so it’s a completely new experience for me.
So if anyone would like to meet up sometime please feel free to contact me here, I would love to meet you.

Re: Anyone in the Netherlands??

Hi Ray,

Since I live in The Netherlands, but in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen (quite a distance …), I would advise you to do a search with ‘The Netherlands’ in the members section and see who lives close to you and then send them an e-mail. Just an idea.

Re: Anyone in the Netherlands??

Try Belgium, too, the Flemish-speaking part. There may be a session or two within easy reach of The Netherlands.

Re: Anyone in the Netherlands??

That’s right, Antwerp and Ghent (the latter I frequent myself) come to mind.

Re: Anyone in the Netherlands??

Interestingly, a week ago I posted a similar discussion requesting information about sessions in or near another place, where I’ll be for a week or so later on this month. I’d already checked to see if there was anything in the Sessions section - there wasn’t, which I made clear in my post. That post mysteriously vanished within hours, but fortunately not before someone had picked up on it and emailed me privately.

Re: Anyone in the Netherlands??

De Heksenketel - an excellent name for an Irish session pub!

Re: Anyone in the Netherlands??

I’ll be visiting Amsterdam the weekend after next on the way toTønder…I know it seems a long way for a short cut!

Mulligans in Amsterdam is a great place for Irish music and they have a Sunday session. I’m not sure if I’d be up to playing there or not though. I’d have to suss it out.

I believe Jamie Smith and his band are playing in the pub that weekend so I’ll definitely go along to hear him. He’s a great, energetic, vibrant young fiddler………..posts here from time to time too.

Re: Anyone in the Netherlands??

I am in venlo , south east of netherlands but regularly travel to groningen, where also is an irish pub which does sessions,

Re: Anyone in the Netherlands??

Thanks for all the suggestions. I’ve been to mulligans a good few times and the level of playing is very good and fast. It will take me years to catch up with them. I ’ll just keep playing and searching and hopefully some day I’ll meet up with somebody.

Cheers,
Ray.
