More banjo/mandolin picks

More banjo/mandolin picks

I’ve been trying out thumb/plectrum type picks for mandolin and banjo. These are for the thumb and first joint of finger type grip i.e. like a closed fist.
I found this type of pick doesn’t slip and so can be held fairly loosely. I’ve found three types:
Herco:

Two types of Fred Kelly, Bumblebee and Speed pick:

Herco is my favourite at the moment but the speed pick is much cheaper.
I found I had to adjust them all to get a comfortable fit and the Herco is the easiest to alter.
Are there any other similar ones?

Re: More banjo/mandolin picks

Just got my first Hercos. I have bought 1 of each guage but find that they are a bit tight on my fat thumb. I will try them in ernest tonight at band practice & at a gig tomorrow. Any tips for adjusting the thumb grip shape?

SeanMc,
I put mine in hot water, covering the curved bit and opened it out.
I found the grip nearest the thumb nail also needed twisting out so it fitted my thumb better. After altering the first one carefully I found they are very tough and don’t snap even when opened out flat and not warmed. I prefer the bright colours rather than the brown which is difficult to spot on our pub’s floor. I use medium on banjo and heavy on mandolin.
