Simple/free recording software

Simple/free recording software

I’m looking for a simple way to upload my session recordings from mini-disc to computer. I looked at audacity…it seems more than I need for doing this. I’m working on a Windows XP. Maybe there is something already on the computer that will do this? Thanks

Re: Simple/free recording software

I like a little program called Dexster by SoftDiv. Google it - it should come up but I cna’t remember if it’s free or not. It’s not too hard to use but it does have some nice yet simple features. Noise reduction etc. too if you want to play around but you don’t have to.

Bunratty - if you’ve got a HI-MD sort of model, then Sonic Stage (the Sony software) should do this for you. If you register here http://forums.minidisc.org/ you can find all the downloads etc

Re: Simple/free recording software

But having said that, Audacity would still be my suggestion. It can be as simple or as complicated as you like. I use it for simple recording using the internal mic on my Mac and it works fine just for that, but of course if you go into it in more depth there are plenty of ‘bells and whistles’ . But if you don’t need ‘em don’t use ‘em… :-)

I too use Audacity for session uploads, and am very happy with it. As Rhod points out, it has all sorts of features you’ll probably never use, but since it’s free, I’m not complaining. And I do use the slow-down and change pitch features frequently.

Re: Simple/free recording software

I use a free program called Mp3DirectCut to record from my minidisc via the line input directly to mp3. This program’s main feature is to edit mp3 files, including volume adjustment without decoding, re encoding . I haven’t met a better mp3 editor, can be found via authors site
