The Christmas Session

The Christmas Session

Apart from obvious tunes like Christmas Eve, The Turkey in the Straw (also known as The Nut Roast in the Straw) and The Frost is all Over, my selection of tunes would include:

The Musical Piste.
The Gander in the Sproutie Hole.
The Broken Sledge.
Jenny’s Welcome to Santa.

Any other suggestions out there?

Happy Christmas!

Martin

I tormented my fellow sessioneers last week by starting a set of polkas with Jingle Bells. Works quite well.

Re: The Christmas Session

Some Chants de Noël / French Carols lend themselves well to being abused as dance tunes. Key mentioned “Jingle Bells” earlier, yeah, that was a must and a favourite. If I remember well we used an arrangement of the French carol “Ding Dong Merrilly” in a set with that and others, and we’d even break in with singing… Daft yes, but a hell of a lot of fun too… We used to also do a butchers special of different airs for “Away in a Manger”… We used to also play a ‘Christmas Bouree’, or a set of tunes for that?
