Where are you online if you’re not on “the session.org”?

Where are you online if you’re not on “the session.org”?

Are we all recluses soley addicted to the mustard boards or do we have other online hangouts?

Would be interested to hear.

Re: Where are you online if you’re not on “the session.org”?

Sadly Washington post.com, NY Times.com and something called golden years forum that is a board with people in one of the areas of the country my company has me working in.

I am also an irregular on Chiff and Fipple.

Re: Where are you online if you’re not on “the session.org”?

I’ve dabbled in WhistleThis, but you don’t get enough new tunes to learn.

However, it does provide something to aim for …

Re: Where are you online if you’re not on “the session.org”?

Ummmm…

Mostly C&F, Flickr, MySpace, Facebook, and eBay

Re: Where are you online if you’re not on “the session.org”?

I surf for good video clips—YouTube and MySpace (need to filter those, a lot!), also Custy’s, Comhaltas, kerrywhistles.com… any other good ones out there?

Re: Where are you online if you’re not on “the session.org”?

oh, I forgot YouTube

Re: Where are you online if you’re not on “the session.org”?

The postings under comment blogs of The Guardian, a lot of the time.

(These can be shamefully vitriolic - not mine, I hope - much more than here. But enough of the articles and posts are interesting.)

Otherwise, ransacking Wiki about this and that.

And reading, or trying to read, Greek newspapers - it’s the foreign language I’ve made the most progress with, and the foreign country I’ve spent longest in (a long time ago). Mind, there are English-language editions and publications too.

Re: Where are you online if you’re not on “the session.org”?

Occasionally I check in at the discussion boards at violinist.com, which never fails to vindicate my decision to become a fiddler instead.

"I only have four hours a day to practice. What should I work on?"
"You should spend at least two hours and forty five minutes on scales and arpeggios. Spend the rest on vibrato. If you have any time left over, work on bowing open strings. And you should seriously think about whether you want to continue playing the violin if you’re not going to take it seriously."

Re: Where are you online if you’re not on “the session.org”?

MySpace, YouTube, TradLessons, JustinGuitar and then a bunch of fishing oriented websites.

It’s hard to get "addicted" here when you can only post one new topic per day. And today I was denied, somehow. I wrote a new topic, clicked NEXT and nothing happened. I’ll try again tomorrow.

Re: Where are you online if you’re not on “the session.org”?

The mustard board is my full-service website. There’s always plenty of sage advice available, as well as scintillating conversation, irrepressible wit and several Argument Rooms.

Re: Where are you online if you’re not on “the session.org”?

Actually, I rarely go anywhere else. Is that sad? Occasionally, I check into the acoustic guitar or celtic guitar forums, but it’s fairly quiet there.

Re: Where are you online if you’re not on “the session.org”?

You could probably find literally anything in here with enough lateral thinking.

Forget French castles - Dan Brown probably got the Da Vinci Code from an intuitive reading of the notes in the Tunes database…

Re: Where are you online if you’re not on “the session.org”?

Some chatiing to mates on skype. But mostly working.

Good post there mehitabel23! It’s kind of fun to see where else everyone here hangs out.

Re: Where are you online if you’re not on “the session.org”?

I work online. I’m a web developer. I check in when bored. But I also check in at home, too.

I like C&F and Everything Dulcimer as well, plus some bicycle forums and I run a hiking forum of my own.

Re: Where are you online if you’re not on “the session.org”?

Mostly professional forums, one in particular. I’m a court reporter, BTW. Music is my recovery mechanism from hearing about human inhumanity to humans (and occasionally animals) all day every day. I occasionally dip into the forum of Foot Stompin’ Celtic music; strongly recommend their selection and service for purchasing CDs. My blog is at covenspace.com. You can find it by going there, looking for Find People and entering Cathryn Bauer.

Re: Where are you online if you’re not on “the session.org”?

facebook, wikipedia, cnn, mlb.com

Re: Where are you online if you’re not on “the session.org”?

LiveJournal, Facebook, MySpace, Youtube… The essentials [sadly enough.]! I’ve recently been frequenting Friendster [equivalent of Facebook in the Philippines] and a site for learning Tagalog. At least a couple times a week I’ll check out Comhaltas and drool over the many excellent musicians on there… Uh, and by drool I mean over their lovely playing. However, if it was James McAvoy…

Cheers,
Armand

Re: Where are you online if you’re not on “the session.org”?

Places like this http://www.metafilter.com/

Today I found a film called "Step Across the Border" http://en.sevenload.com/videos/KuYxEd5/Step-Across-The-Border which features Fred Frith (?) about 20 minutes in, explaining why The Blues was such a big deal - because it was the first music that a lot of people experienced that came from somewhere other than the printed page. A sentiment that won’t be lost on folks around here… Interesting stuff, if the music isn’t too out of hand for you.

And Usenet is still pretty useful.

Shame!

Re: Where are you online if you’re not on “the session.org”?

Usually looking for the latest sightings of His Noodly Goodness:

Re: Where are you online if you’re not on “the session.org”?

GAA sites, other sports, porn sites, politics such as counterpunch, Drudge, Slugger O’Toole, The Guardian Blog.

Re: Where are you online if you’re not on “the session.org”?

Well: I spend a lot of time on my Flickr, LJ, Multiply, DeviantArt, sites.

Will pop onto YouTube and read a few papers.

Re: Where are you online if you’re not on “the session.org”?

In the real world, I am a recluse, because I live in a wonderful place and have no reason to venture beyond my gate.
In the virtual world, I spend quite a lot of time on eBay, browsing, buying, selling. I like to browse CD Baby, for interesting sounds.

I like this guy, not because of the music, but because he got this together

I’m a megalithomaniac, and was involved in the germination of this, long ago

I’m always googling for info on subjects that interest me, and try to keep up with the Apple Mac computer stuff. Regularly check favourite sites on philosophy, green anarchism and similar radical politics, archaeology, many music sites. Also like to read old celtic stories, e.g.

Re: Where are you online if you’re not on “the session.org”?

SkateFans.com. I skated competitively for a while. I’m mad for top-notch pairs skating. I write a lot to the SkateFans list.

I work on-line as a medical transcriptionist part-time.

I also check out NDERF and IANDS sites often, because I am curious about NDE’s. There is a new article on IANDS home page about an NDE regarding MUSIC — composition — after a doctor was struck by lightening near a phone booth (this is from a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, now both in practice and teaching in Syracuse, New York). The doctor started studying and composing piano music and is now performing his original compositions.

I’m with Mary: on the computer most of the day, and as little as possible the rest of the time.

But other than lurking here on a break, I keep an eye on the highway camera at the local ski area in the winter so that I can either plan to get up there or thank god that I don’t have to go up there:

Great thing about the internet—if you can’t be somewhere, you can pretend that you are there.

Oh, and I will confess to a (strictly professional) affair with GoogleEarth.

Re: Where are you online if you’re not on “the session.org”?

I forgot to mention unilang.org - I’m mehitabel.

Re: Where are you online if you’re not on “the session.org”?
