Beginners easy jigs for fiddle

Beginners easy jigs for fiddle

Can anyone please suggest an easy peasy jig for me to play on the fiddle so I can get the hang of bowing a jig tempo. Thanks in anticipation

Re: Beginners easy jigs for fiddle

Might try Tobins jig as a starter.

Re: Beginners easy jigs for fiddle

Lilting Banshee.

Re: Beginners easy jigs for fiddle

Humours of Glendart, Jerry’s Beaver Hat, Visit To Ireland ?

Re: Beginners easy jigs for fiddle

Old John’s Jig.

Re: Beginners easy jigs for fiddle

How about My Darling Asleep or Out On The Ocean?

And don’t forget to keep that bowing hand/wrist nice and relaxed - let it flow! I’m sure you’ve had a look at the all the discussions on bowing technique so no need to belabour the point now. Enjoy.

Re: Beginners easy jigs for fiddle

Also make sure not to bow your phrases 3-3, 3-3, etc.

Re: Beginners easy jigs for fiddle

Paddy’s Return.

Re: Beginners easy jigs for fiddle

Every newbie at our sessions learns Morrison’s with The Kesh as their first jig set.

Re: Beginners easy jigs for fiddle

I second the Humours of Glendart and My darling asleep and out on the ocean.

Try the white haired woman and whelans old sow too.

Re: Beginners easy jigs for fiddle

And then promise yourself that a couple of years from now, you’ll come back and revisit whatever tunes you choose, because people tend to always play the "easy" tunes the way that they learned them as a beginner (poorly). It’s good to revisit those tunes when you’ve got some more experience under your belt, because even the "easy" tunes are beautiful when played well.

Re: Beginners easy jigs for fiddle

I’m surprised Connaughtman’s Rambles hasn’t come up yet. I find it one of the best and easiest jigs for teaching the rhythm.

Re: Beginners easy jigs for fiddle

From the list of most popular tunes on site here, 2-part, 32 bar jigs, the top 5 (#s are their order amongst other tune forms) ~

2.) The Kesh
5.) Morrison’s
8.) Banish Misfortune
10.) Connaughtman’s Rambles
19.) Out on the Ocean

Re: Beginners easy jigs for fiddle

Munster Buttermilk, the 2 or the 3 part version.

Re: Beginners easy jigs for fiddle

I second the Lilting Banshee. Also Calliope House isn’t too hard. Not from a fingering point of view at least. I don’t know about bowing.

Re: Beginners easy jigs for fiddle

The Sesh most popular list ~

20.) The Blarney Pilgrim ~ 3-part (#6 of 6 jigs)
26.) Calliope House
396.) Munster Buttermilk

Re: Beginners easy jigs for fiddle

That reminds me, not all things that appear as jigs are just jigs ~ try a search, enter just ‘march’ in the title bar, then use the drop down menu for types and select ‘jig’… Here are some, "Atholl Highlanders" is another, just mentioned. These are great for learning rhythmic bowing ~ if taken as marches ~
