Printing tunes

Printing tunes

I did try to write Jeremy but I get a blank page saying ’url not found" since i had already started a thread on this same topic. Since then I have discovered that when printing a tune it must be done using colour. If you don’t then the staph lines do not come through. This a waste of colour ink which is a bit more expensive than black and white and a nuisance when the color ink cartridge goes empty. It is possible to print in black and white by selecting print preference each time when you print but that step is easily forgotten and then it is necessary to reprint using more ink. Why can’t the tunes be made to print in B&W from the source.
Jeremy! are you there?

Re: Printing tunes

You could copy the ABC of each tune submission and then put that into this website:

http://www.concertina.net/tunes_convert.html

then print off the PDF VERSION and that should be just black and white

Re: Printing tunes

I just save the text to my desktop and print from there…no issues with color as it’s just the text.

Thanks for the input but it is less complicated to select printer properties and click on “print in black and white” My concern is why is it necessary to present the tune with the staph lines, having a colour base? It doesn’t make sense but Jeremy may have an answer. The other concern is why is his ’write me“ link , showing as ”url not found". Could it have something to do with my browser?

Re: Printing tunes

What the feck are ‘staph lines’?

Re: Printing tunes

Bill - you must get a copy of ABC Navigator from here: http://abcnavigator.free.fr/abcnvgt.php?lang=eng
Then what you do is find the tune on this site and go to the “Download” tab. Don’t print the tune direct because you’ll miss all the variations that people have posted, and you’ll miss the best bit. Save the ABC file to your computer, and then open it using ABC Navigater. You’ll immediately see the advantages. To print a tune (in b&w) go to Tools…Print Sheet Music…Print Tune. Or click on Add to Print List and you can create a temporary list of tunes to print together. You won’t want to be without it!

Re: Printing tunes

Thanks for the heads up Richard B. I will give it a try.

I guess you could say “staph lines” are staff lines infected with a virus that makes them print in color. I must have been thinking along those lines when I posted. Sorry for the pun!

Richard
Your printing advice works well, however I will have to find a way to enlarge the printout. Do you have any suggestions along that line?

Re: Printing tunes

Bill - what you can do is open the ABC file in ABC Navigator. Add the tune to the Print List. Then on the bottom right of the screen, you’ll see three tabs “Score”, “Sets” and “Print List”. Click on the Print List one and then just above the tune title in the Print List you’ll see a Print Preview button (third one along). Click on that and you should see the Print Preview on the right, with some sliders above it to change font size and line height. Drag them to resize and you can print quite large. ABC Navigator is great - you might not have noticed that it plays the tunes audibly too (double-click on the tune title) and this can be useful if you can put up with the plinky-plink sound.

Re: Printing tunes

Sorry - I meant “bottom left” of the screen. I “mis-spoke” there!

Sizing problem solved. Why does the t on the print outune title always come up as “0-- Pullet” and never the actual name of the tune. Am I still not getting it? It helps to have the tune title.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Printing tunes

Bill - the title is the bit in the ABC file that comes after T: (second line) - you can edit this.
