Tunes with C and F natural

Tunes with C and F natural

Having just obtained a DG melodeon that, unusually, has high and low C and F naturals I’m looking for tunes to help me get used to them. I’m interested in finding tunes in D, G or A that use these notes before moving on to play entirely in C, F or whatever . So far I have The Flogging Reel and The Luck Penny. Do you have any other suggestions? TIA.

And about time too!
Now what about all those lovely D minor tunes you could never get the buttons round..

eg Sergeant Early’s Dream

Look forward to hearing the new box…

Re: Tunes with C and F natural

Dm will still be awkward as the Fs are on the pull and the Ds are on the push but that’s why I want to get in gradually.

The box is a Hohner Gaelic that had been converted from BC. When Hohner sent a set of reeds out to the repairer they came with this unusual set-up.

Re: Tunes with C and F natural

Cook in the Kitchen jig and the Hunt (set dance); also Jenny Picking Cockles.

Re: Tunes with C and F natural

I have heard a setting of The Congress done with a F natural. I rather like it that way. The Broken Pledge would be perfect but the same key as Sg. Early’s and maybe not what you are looking for. Great tune also. Good luck!

Re: Tunes with C and F natural

The Yellow Tinker.

Re: Tunes with C and F natural

Chief O’Neill’s Favourite ought to work well.

Re: Tunes with C and F natural

Thanks for such a quick response. Sgt Early looks quite playable as the Fs and Ds are not adjacent.

Re: Tunes with C and F natural

The Tempest
The Geese in the Bog (C version)
The Silver Spear sounds lovely played in C.

Re: Tunes with C and F natural

Julia Delaney

The Broken Pledge

Re: Tunes with C and F natural

Porthole of the Kelp

Humours of Scariff

Coleraine Jig

Seamus O’Shanahan’s

Hughie’s Cap

O’Dowd’s Favourite

Re: Tunes with C and F natural

Chief O’Neill’s as mentioned above, the B part appears to start in Dm but it’s just toying with you. Brian O’Lynn is in Adorian but has both sharp and natural Cs and Fs.

Re: Tunes with C and F natural

The Hag’s Purse is a jig in D with c natural and a high f natural.

The Ace And Deuce Of Pip(er)ing is another set dance with high f sharps in it.

A whole lot of things sound nicer and more mellow played in the keys of C or F. These seem to suit singers well, if you play along to singers or sing yourself.

Re: Tunes with C and F natural

The Bunch of Green Rushes

Re: Tunes with C and F natural

Cat’s meow is the only one I can think of with an Fnat. As for ones Cnat, Rainy Day, Dusty Windowsills, the New Copperplate and Old Copperplate etc. Those are all in G, D or Am.

Re: Tunes with C and F natural

Also Banish Misfortune.

Re: Tunes with C and F natural

Just about anything with the title "Paddy Fahy" or "Paddy Fahey".
