busking competition

busking competition

My band decided to take part in a busking competition as it’s practically on our doorstep. It’s held on an open Sunday in a small town to attract shoppers. You are supposed to play for 20 minutes. The passers-by can vote by card. First prize 300€ , expenses get paid to an extent. We’re only in it for the fun.
Any experiences?

Re: busking competition

Has this competition been happening for some time, or will this be its first time? If it’s happened in previous years, what has it been like to watch and listen to? Have many people been interested enough to vote?

And what’s the weather been like over there? I keep meaning to visit Germany again, I have friends there.

Re: busking competition

We have an annual busking competition in the town where I live. Each participant pays a £2 entry fee. The takings go to a local cause and there’s a £20 prize for the highest takings. So, nobody’s in it for the money.

Re: busking competition

A genius friend of mine needed the money from these competitions. Now he was a genius but not presentable.

So he would get his eight year old to play with him. Ever heard an 8 year old as good as Richard Thompson?

Won all the time. Nothing to do with the music, because that 8 year old is now about 18 and no chance of winning, even though he is probably the best guitarist, ever.

So the moral is, you need presentation, or a gimmick.

Re: busking competition

It’s the first time this competition is held and as a band we have not done any busking.
For a gimmick I’m thinking of painting a garden gnome green, white and orange. No offence meant 🙂
It’s sunny but cold in the mornings over here. The competition is in three weeks time. I think we’ll manage if we don’t play for hours.
