Another recording request

Another recording request

on the B-side of the old tape I got (the Noel Hill Irish Concertina thing), is Paddy Glackin solo fiddling - but I could not find the right tune list at the recordings … somewhere in the middle of the tape I recognized Franc A

Re: Another recording request

If it’s in a set with the Fairy Jig, and there are synths and bouzouki on the track, it’s PG’s “Rabharta Ceoil/In Full Spate”, with Donal Lunny. Great record.

I’m not so much a Donal fan as I used to be, but this disc is one of his high-water marks.

Re: Another recording request

That is one of these I found here in the recording section - but it is not the one I

Re: Another recording request

if solo it’s probably ‘an fidil’.if i remeber right, thattape has also got seamus creagh, kevin burke and sean keane on it as well

Re: Another recording request

He did a solo album (vinyl) in the 70’s…I have it at home but it may take me some time to dig it out, I’m not sure if this is the one you are looking for but I’ll try and post it later this week.

Re: Another recording request

It’s also on this recording: Nimbus NI 5320, Ciaran Tourish, Dermot McLaughlin, Seamus Glackin, Kevin Glackin - “Fiddle Sticks: Irish Traditional Music from Donegal” (1991).

I forgot, it’s not on sale as a single CD anymore, but as part of a bargain-priced four disc set, From a Distant Shore - Traditional Irish and Cape Breton Music, Nimbus NI 1752

Re: Another recording request

… I don

Ooop!

sorry, misread me Glackins

Re: Another recording request

‘i don’t see,how…’

crannog, this album is from the 70s,i think and was supposed to feature the then ‘new-kids-on-the-block’ fiddle players so you get a blast of these other players.if your tape is paddy glackin all the way through then obviously it’s not this one,but it was n’t clear to me if that was the case.
like you said, the vinyl could be your man.
sorry to confuse you.and maybe me.
won’t happen again anyway

Re: Another recording request

I used to have a tape of that record and almost wore it out before someone presumably “borrowed” it a decade or two ago.

I can recall many of the tracks but not necessarily in order. It starts wth Patsy Touhey’s reel /Old Cuffe Street, that I’m pretty sure of. Somewhere there is a set played on viola - Julia Delaney / Mother’s Delight. The Hare in the Heather aka Morning Dew gets a good going over. On the jig front there is a lovely simple jig from Johnny Doherty, the Hare in the Corn, which is paired if I remember right with O’Keeffe’s aka Bank of Turf. There’s also a great driving Johnny Doherty reel - is that paired with Cup of Tea?

Caher Rua / Wild Irishman is another set that I particularly liked.

There was a great Bmin/D reel called McFadden’s - was that paired with Glass of Beer…

Then there are a couple of tracks with Micheal O Suilleabhain on harpsichord, including Top it Off / Sunny Banks I think, and to end the record a single jig that he plays in every key imaginable. This same jig appears on the Bothy’s Old Hag and on Matt Molloy’s Heathery Breeze if I’m not out to lunch completely.

If I recall S

Re: Another recording request

Concertina Player - well, if it isn’t, thanks for letting us know that it’s been reissued!

Re: Another recording request

@concertina player: this could be the one - but they have no tunes/tracks listed.

@bigdave: hopefully no bad feelings - I meant that ironically (and tried to make that clear enough with the emoticon) - and it mainly pointed towards…

@nastyweegirl who already made her apologies for misreading/mixin the Glackin

Re: Another recording request

Aw, no harm done ……….. virtual pints all round ……………. and we all got extra info this way …….. and do you BELIEVE Brother Steve’s memory!

Re: Another recording request

no doubt: Brother Steve

Re: Another recording request

I think somebody’s watering down these virtual pints ….. two’s normally my limit, but I feel strangely sober, yet!

Virtual pints need much imagination ….

… to taste them and feel them and realize the sudden change of light when you leave the pub after two or three of them. but it is good to have a smart practiced imagination not only in this case….

…. it is the right one by the way. so lets put it in the recording section. thank you all.

Re: Another recording request

There’s a coincidence. Today I’ve been listening to one of my treasured old tapes (since I dropped my minidisc on the floor the other day, dammit) - Noel Hill & Tony Linnane on one side, Paddy Glackin solo, on the other! I’m not much use, though, I think the track lists are all messed up. I think they might even be the wrong way round… maybe I can clear it up now!

Re: Another recording request

yes, Helen, so it seemed to me. But I thought it might be my fault because I checked the list while driving from Munich to Frankfurt on Thursday with much traffic on the Autobahn…
