Track 5 of the Chieftains 4: “The Battle of Aughrim”

Track 5 of the Chieftains 4: “The Battle of Aughrim”

“The Battle of Aughrim”
Hi can anyone help unpack this track on the Chieftains 4. It seems there are several pieces played on this track and not all of them are available here.
Besides the music here under this title and under ‘Return from Fingal’ there are at least a few other tunes under this track heading, including a particularly haunting lament. I figured since someone was kind enough to include all the in between tunes on track one “Drowsy Maggie” that we could have a similiar treatment here, which would pretty much fill in all the gaps for that album. Thanks,
John

I prefer to stew them in their own juices myself.

those were the days. moloney is a great arranger, especially on this piece and the memorable foxhunt.
the best performance i ever saw was the chieftains in roscommon circa 1972-3 with just one mike and an exuberant audience who cheered and applauded wildly. the group reached a crescendo on the foxhunt with paddy introducing the piece, in his own inimitable humorous way. when it came to the foxhunters reel at the end of the piece, played at twice the usual speed, the crowd went wild…the atmosphere was electric and pagan.
another oustanding memory was the merry sisters set and, of course, the morning dew.
i have often heard the chieftains wrongly described as a type of safe chamber orchestra, who play mainly planxties and carolan music, a bit predictable and conservative….however, when they swing into a reel or jig selection, there are no better trad players….most of the current outstanding session tunes were on earlier chieftain albums and the younger players don`t realise they are playing tunes they first hear on the chieftains albums
