Watching BBC videos?…

Watching BBC videos?…

Hi all… just a little frustration from me.
I was going over from Kan’s myspace page to watch a clip of their performance at Celtic Connections, and I get this message that says "Not available in your area"!

I don’t suppose there’s any other way of watching this, does anybody know?

In the civilized world people pay for their media. In the uncivilized world we use proxies. actually I have not personally used a proxy to view BBC programs "Not available in my area." If you can suss it out, that’s one way.
Also, YouTube has some BBC program(me)s.

Thanks much, Random_notes… Don’t think anyone could tell me which proxy to use?… I’m not much of the computer geek…

Re: Watching BBC videos?…

Yeah, I just found that one too… I didn’t get anywhere with the proxy thing, though… Oh well, I found something at least. That should hold me over until I hear more of Brian’s new album….

Re: Watching BBC videos?…

If you have a friend with a PC in the UK, by mutual agreement you could use the Microsoft Windows remote desktop facility (available in XP Pro versions and above) to access your friend’s computer, and thus view the video in that way.

Re: Watching BBC videos?…

Joseph, I’ve had success in using the free trial over at http://www.ukproxyserver.co.uk/ Just visit the website, click "Free Trial" in the left sidebar, the click "Proxy Server Trial." They’ll give you an IP address (choose the UK server), which you then enter into your web browser, along with a trial username and password they provide. (In case you’re worried, more detailed instructions can be found on their website). It’s really easy and so far it’s worked great for me. Of course, as Jeremy pointed out, it’s not exactly how BBC intends their programs to be viewed, but as far as I know, there’s no other way for us Yanks to see them, so I don’t see a problem with it.

BTW, that video clip of Kan was great (though I’m not sure I’m so partial to a standard drum-set in Irish music, or at least not how he was playing it). You might like this other BBC video I just enjoyed viewing: http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/music/celticconnections/2009/artists/moonlighting/

Hope that helps! Email if you’ve got further questions about the proxy.
