Jig Name on Fliuit 2 Cd 1

Jig Name on Fliuit 2 Cd 1

June McCormack names Jig 5 on Cd 1 of her Flute tutorial ‘Fliuit 2’ as ‘Danny O Mahony’s’ having got the tune from Danny. Does anyone know the proper name of the tune and composer? Here is the start of the tune:

ADFA DFA D’F’E’D’ BA BD’ BAF EFE DBA

Re: Jig Name on Fliuit 2 Cd 1

When notating jigs, it is especially helpful to introduce breaks between beat groups. Barlines are also nice…

i.e.
A | DFA DFA | dfe dBA | BdB BAF | EFE D

etc.

I presume the tune you mention is the first one from this set: http://www.tradschool.com/en/tunes/danny-omahoneys-cats-meow-queen-of-mayo

There it is also called Danny Mahony’s.

The player of this tune is Louisa Bennion, a concertina player living in France. (http://www.blogger.com/profile/06028364336726477612) Perhaps she might have more information about where the tune originated. Most trad people are approachable and actually want to share the history of the tunes they play. It is an integral part of sustaining the tradition.

Thanks for that great info and links to the tune. I’m just wondering now did Danny maybe compose the tune himself?

Listen to June announcing this tune. From what she says one can understand that neither Danny nor she or Michael were able to give it’s original name to it.
