Ode to the lonely banjo player…

Ode to the lonely banjo player…

There once was a man from Kilkenny
Whose fiddling was not worth a penny
It screeched and it howled
At the sessions they scowled
And the noise drove away his sweet Jenny

So the accordion he decided to try
A vintage old box he did buy
But the bellows were leaky
And the keys were all squeaky
So his dear sweet Kathleen said “Good-bye!”

Of the bodhran he soon became fond
With his new love he thought he could bond
But the tipper did fly
And it poked out her eye
And that’s how he lost his Siobhan

The tin whistle would surely work best
A high F one he thought he would test
What horrible sounds!
To drive mad even hounds!
Sweet Eileen ran away from his nest

Exclaiming, while sipping his tea
“A mighty young piper I’ll be!”
From the Pakistan border
Some “pipes” he did order
And Bridget soon fled to Tralee

So now, our friend plays the banjo
There’s really no place he can go
Sure, the picking is fun,
But a wife? He has none
All the loving is now done solo
