cape breton tune on a jody stecher album

cape breton tune on a jody stecher album

was wondering if anyone knew the name of the cape breton tune on snake baked a hoecake?

Re: cape breton tune on a jody stecher album

I can’t put a name to it, but it has an Irish feel to it and the source for the tune, Jeremy Kammerer, was very interested in ITM and was responsible for the Joe Cooley tapes. It also sounds as if it would carry a song.

Re: cape breton tune on a jody stecher album

i have the record, but i’m at work right now. if you don’t have the answer by tonite i’ll check and see if i can figure it out….

jeremy kammerer is also a walking compendium of the irish style, repertoire, and settings of east galway box maestro kevin keegan….but he also played a lot, including on at least one LP, with fiddler cathie whitesides, and i’m pretty sure that LP features music from many traditional sources including cape breton so……jeremy is in seattle,i believe, shouldn’t be too hard to track him down if it comes to that….

Re: cape breton tune on a jody stecher album

okay, this question slipped my mind until this weekend. i listened to this track on my “SBAH” LP---i’m sorry for misunderstanding earlier. somehow i thought you were referencing a waltz. but you are asking about a reel (guess it could b a fast strathspey, but i’m assuming it’s a reel)? very cool tune indeed…

i eliminated it from the cape breton reels on my cathie whitesides lp. moved on to the few cape breton cds i have….i think but am not sure it is a reel titled “Tom Rae,”

reaon i say “not sure” is the sole place i heard a tune sounding like it was an extremley amped-up, hyper-speed fiddle track where the reel in question was buried in the middle of a six-tune track (an annoying phenom that seems favored by an annoying number of scottish/cape breton types)…..

[Composed by the late Inverness, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, fiddler Dan R. MacDonald. Paul Stewart Cranford says it was one of the prolific MacDonald’s best-known reels. MacDonald (Heather Hill Collection). ]

unfortunately this clip like often happens on amazon does not play the whole track, but this is the cd. the tune is right before “dinky dorian” on this mile-long string of stuff:

oh, cool. here is a whole page devoted to this tune, listing recordings, plus, at the bottom of the page, written notes for the first few bars……
