Slow Air Name

Re: Slow Air Name

Did Lunasa name something incorrectly again?

Re: Slow Air Name

Just linked incorrectly on the album.

Re: Slow Air Name

Gah

Re: Slow Air Name

Ignore all that.

Re: Slow Air Name

I hope I didn’t kill this thread by posting the wrong information, what I posted was the second tune, when, of course, what was asked for is the first air.

My apologies.

Re: Slow Air Name

“[ An ] Paistin Fionn” - as it says at the top. There are several variations on this tune. I seem to remember this particular version - or something very similar - was recorded by the Limerick flute player Paddy Taylor on his recording “The Boy In The Gap”.

Re: Slow Air Name

Okay, now are you talking about the second tune or the first?

Re: Slow Air Name

There is an air called An Paistin Fionn, and the tune I linked to is apparently the hornpipe(?) version of it.

Re: Slow Air Name

Both tunes in the set are variations (air and hornpipe) of An Pàistin Fíonn, which is a traditional Irish song.

Re: Slow Air Name

Okay, now it all makes sense. Thanks!

An Páistín Fionn

Mary Mac Namara did a lovely version of this as a ‘slow jig’ (more like a stately waltz, followed by a jig version) on ‘The Blackberry Blossom’.

So it’s a song tune, an air, a waltzy piece, a jig and a hornpipe.

Now, what’s the name of the reel version? 8))
