Paddy’s resource

Paddy’s resource

Does anyone know the tune Paddy’s Resource? I have been recommended it to play but I can’t find a tune by that name anywhere on the session. Is it known by another name? Here is the YouTube recording (the first one in the set):-

Any help welcome

If ever you’re looking for a tune use a google search

"Also known as" "thesession.org" "insert tune name"

Re: Paddy’s resource

Try the ‘New York jig’

Re: Paddy’s resource

I looked for the common g setting in every which way, but I couldn’t find it - so I submitted it.

Re: Paddy’s resource

PS this is a very common tune, at least in the NY area. It’s not a bad tune, but some people treat it like it’s not obscure enough, therefore it’s not a ‘cool’ tune, if you know what I mean. All that aside there’s a lot of ‘cool’ tunes that couldn’t hold a candle to this little jig - it’s a solid old jig well worth knowing and playing.

Re: Paddy’s resource

A grand jig. Very popular back in the sixties as ‘The Streets of New York’

Re: Paddy’s resource

Re: Paddy’s resource

Musician friend of ours found this (among other tunes written in ‘backward’ notation) from a fiddler’s manuscript at Arlington, Vermont, USA circa 1780.
