Interesting Youtube Clip

Re: Interesting Youtube Clip

Just watched a few minutes so far; weren’t everyone in their best suits for the cameras ? And never realised Cork was in the West - where’s my compass ?

Re: Interesting Youtube Clip

There was me thinking people in the West of Ireland (like Cork! Who knew?) had spoken Irish for some time. News to me that Irish "moved" out that way.

And Willie Clancy one of Sean O’Riada’s followers? You learn something new every day.

Re: Interesting Youtube Clip

Cork is in the West if you tilt your head a bit. Just like leaning to the left makes the Eiffel Tower seems smaller.

Re: Interesting Youtube Clip

Does that mean that socialists think everything is smaller?

Re: Interesting Youtube Clip

Thanks Theirlandais — it is indeed interesting.

Re: Interesting Youtube Clip

Every night the pubs of Cork are packed by musicians and singers.
they are not packed any more, nobody has any money, thanks to anglo irish bank and the fat cat bondholders, and the puppet politicians, the country has been smashed up by multi national capitalists, half the young people have left again, this time it is not the fault of the English, the ECB protecting the rich

Re: Interesting Youtube Clip

That’s exactly what this thread needed. Thanks.

Re: Interesting Youtube Clip

Intresting Planxty footage at about 40mins

Re: Interesting Youtube Clip

You can find faults with the description the YouTube uploader entered, sure - but who gives a damn?

Excellent film.

Thanks for the post, Theirlandais.

Re: Interesting Youtube Clip

I got about three minutes into the film and then got bored. Maybe will have to try it when I’m in a more focused frame of mind.

Re: Interesting Youtube Clip

On a side note, what is played after the slow air? Deadly tune!

Re: Interesting Youtube Clip

I found it quite an oddly structured documentary, but lots of interesting footage in there.

"On a side note, what is played after the slow air? Deadly tune!"

Assuming you mean after the air that introduces the film, it’s The Lone Bush https://thesession.org/tunes/4517 , an Ed Reavy composition.

Re: Interesting Youtube Clip

I was wondering what the first jig might be called? The one just near the start of the film, where Willie Clancy and a flute player (wonder who?), take the "lead" for a bit.

Re: Interesting Youtube Clip

One of the fluteplayers is Micho Russell. The tune is the Lark on the Strand (one of many tunes flying under that name).

Re: Interesting Youtube Clip

Johnny O’Leary and possibly Denis Murphy from the back at about 32:00. Not long before the Weaver’s death.

Re: Interesting Youtube Clip

Denis Murphy is the fiddler at 26:38 playing Miss Thornton in D as well as the one playing Quinn’s with Johnny Leary as you say.
