I’d like to identify a tune, can anyone help?

I’d like to identify a tune, can anyone help?

It’s a scotch pipe jig I think. All I can remember from it is a section that goes a little like:

http://imgur.com/78V5C

or something like that. All I can remember is that bit (or something that does a similar thing, down up down up etc). Anyway, I know the tune is mega famous, so I hope people can work out what I mean from that pathetic sketch.

Thanks guys
Fred

Re: I’d like to identify a tune, can anyone help?

It seems familiar, but no luck so far. It could be in a different key ~

d3 AFd | GBd Ace |

A3 FDA | DFA EGB |

a3 fda | dfa egb |

g3 dBg | ceg dfa |

There are plenty of fine Scottish rooted folk on this website that enjoy such challenges. I’ll try again later if no one rises with an immediate answer. Nigel Gatherer is one of those, and dear Kenny, but there are many more, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Weejie arrived here with a name and a source.

Thanks man, I hope so. I know it used to be in my tunebook, but not anymore it seems

Re: I’d like to identify a tune, can anyone help?

that’s it! thankyou so much

;-)

Nigel, no surprise there, except HOW? I wouldn’t have gotten there with what I had. I was going several places, but the wrong ones. For some reason I was stuck on those given notes being the first two bars of a part. I’m glad an answer was found. Great stuff Nigel!

Re: I’d like to identify a tune, can anyone help?

If it’s "mega famous" it’s surprising that it’s not in the tunes section

“Alasdair Fraser & Tony McManus: Return to Kintail”

Track 11 - the second tune in a set of 4
https://thesession.org/recordings/display/558

Yes, it would be good to have a transcription on site… But, maybe there had been and it got lost? I’ll say no more… :-(

Re: I’d like to identify a tune, can anyone help?

Thanks Weejie…

Re: I’d like to identify a tune, can anyone help?

ceolachan said, "HOW?"

This:
d3 GBB | Ace aef |
is in the 3rd part of the tune, not a million miles from Fred’s snippet:
d3 AFd | GBd Ace |.
That’s how. :-)

Re: I’d like to identify a tune, can anyone help?

I did say I’d suspected you’d know it. ;-)

Re: I’d like to identify a tune, can anyone help?

You did, you know, you did. You said ‘Nigel Gatherer is one of those’ - but I’m not, you know. Not that I’ve got anything against them, but I’m not, you know. I don’t even own an anorak!
