Trouble accessing thesession with Firefox….

Trouble accessing thesession with Firefox….

For the past four or five days I haven’t been able to access thesession.org via Firefox. I haven’t had any problem using Safari. I wrote to Jeremey regarding the problem but I haven’t heard back from him.
Is anybody else experiencing problems? I have reloaded and updated Firefox to no avail.
Thanks…
David

No problems for me using Firefox.

likewise.

Re: Trouble accessing thesession with Firefox….

No problem here. Do you have the full Firefox version?

Re: Trouble accessing thesession with Firefox….

No problem here from a PC. Mention of Safari indicates a Mac, though.

Re: Trouble accessing thesession with Firefox….

Problems sometimes whether IE, Firefox or Safari (which has a PC version too). Sometimes I can get through on a Mac running Safari when Windows systems cannot, but generally it is problematic at times. Got a "503 Guru Meditation -Varnish cache" a few times lately.
Today is fine.

This thread will no doubt self-destruct soon.

Re: Trouble accessing thesession with Firefox….

No problem here as well… have you maybe recently installed a new addon? Anyway, try it in the safe mode. If this doesn’t do it either, a complete reset might be worth a try: if you just reinstall firefox, the configuration files will remain the same, so you have to remove (or better, rename) the configuration folder. I don’t know where it is on a mac, in linux it’s usually in the home directory: ~/.mozilla/firefox ; just rename this folder to something like ~/.mozilla/firefox.backup . The next time you start firefox, it will be as plain as freshly installed and create a new configuration folder. You can simply overwrite it with the backup again, if this come to nothing also.

works for me v16.0.2

Thanks to all… I will try the safe mode and heed the other recommendations.

Re: Trouble accessing thesession with Firefox….

I think "503 Guru Meditation -Varnish cache" means that Someone is carrying out maintenance at the back end. I haven’t had to wait long for normal service to resume.
The Safari browser works fine for me on a bog-standard PC; I believe it has a similar engine to Google Chrome, but imo works a bit better. I chose Safari a while ago to match up with my iPad.
I don’t use Firefox, and IE8 is only used when a specialist website (such as NHSProfessionals) demands it.

Re: Trouble accessing thesession with Firefox….

In Firefox, try Help -> Troubleshooting information and then when that page loads, there’s a "Reset Firefox to its default state" which keeps your info intact.

I’ve found that quite useful when nothing else seems to work.

Re: Trouble accessing thesession with Firefox….

Thanks Mark. That did the trick.

Re: Trouble accessing thesession with Firefox….

When a similar doomed discussion was posted a couple of weeks back the site was operating just fine for me, despite other members experiencing a slowdown. At the moment all cylinders are firing. But there have been times, over the last 5-6 days, when thesession was worse than turn-of-the- century dialup. Though the rest of the internet was flying around as easy as you please.

Fab, David. Thanks for letting me know!

Re: Trouble accessing thesession with Firefox….

No problems here either. Maybe you need to check if there is a problem with pop up blockers. The newer firefox version have tighter pop up protection.

Re: Trouble accessing thesession with Firefox….

Point your flute away from the computer, that should keep it from happening again.

Re: Trouble accessing thesession with Firefox….

I’m using Google Chrome and Firefox, and having no problems on either. However, lately, I have not able to access the Chiff and Fipple forums on either browser…

Re: Trouble accessing thesession with Firefox….

I’ve had to give up on Firefox on the Mac. I haven’t had trouble with thesession much, but it doesn’t properly run a large number of sites. This has been going on since my update to Lion, maybe I need Mountain Lion…but giving up on Firefox seems to be the way to go. It has gotten very flakey on the Mac over the past year or so.

C&F, as mentioned has been having a tough time…

Re: Trouble accessing thesession with Firefox….

Any issues you were seeing were probably unrelated to your browser, and more down to the fact The Session is currently hosted by a company that has sadly diminished in capacity to offer even the most basic uptime and response times.

I plan to switch The Session over to a new host when the new redesign/relaunch is ready to go (which should be pretty soon) so fingers crossed that everything should be a lot snappier.

Sorry about the frustrating slowness in the meantime.
