I’m new to the site, and I must say it all looks very civilised. Well done. I’m exploring the tunes; is there a neat way of paging through, or starting from a point other than the very beginning, please? I know I can look at just Jigs, for example, but even there the search starts at the first one each time, and it takes ages to get to where I last looked.
Hi! The only way appears to be editing the address bar directly, e.g.
https://thesession.org/tunes/search?type=jig&mode=&q=&page=X
where X is the page number. So you just have to remember where you last looked…
There isn’t a way of directly jumping ahead to a particular page in a search result e.g. page 34 of 956
…although as megapop pointed out, you can edit the “page” value in the search result URL to jump to a particular page.
I’m curious though: in what situation would you want to do this? Wouldn’t it be like plucking a results page at random?
They want to continue browsing the database where thy last stopped. A random-function would also be a nice gimmick though, like at tradtune.com.
I was looking simply to scroll through steadily and see what tunes are there; it will take some time, obviously. Dipping in and out at random I may find tunes I like, but can equally miss some cracking ones. I’ll give megapop’s advice a try. Many thanks for your replies.
Bybox, I don’t know of anyway to directly view a list, or catalog of tunes, submitted to the site. By my estimation there are currently ~11,157 tunes which have been submitted. Within these are ~19,445 tune settings.
Your approach of searching jigs (or any other *tune type* - reels, slip jigs, hornpipes, polkas, slides, waltzs, barndances, strathspeys, three-twos, or mazurkas) seems to be the best way to view an alphabetic listing.
The list for jigs begins with tunes having a numeral as the first part of a title (“10th Bat Crossing Rhine”), followed by titles beginning with *A* (“A Blur Of Heather”), & then the 45th tune (“A. M. Shinnie”) begins alphabetically with the remaining titles. However, around jig #95 there are jig titles beginning with *An* (An Asal Cam).
