The Snow On The Mountain - anyone know this jig, or know of it?

The Snow On The Mountain - anyone know this jig, or know of it?

I’ve recently got back into composing tunes and wrote a little jig I decided to call “The Snow on the Mountain” given the view of the Mourne Mountains out of my window. I posted it to Youtube so that my other band members could listen and practice it but lo and behold got a message from another Youtube member that there is already a jig with that name. However, I can’t find it! I can find The Snow IN The Mountain, and all manner of other things on the mountain, but not snow. I can rename mine if I need to, but can’t seem to find any trace of the conflicting tune. Can anyone help?

Re: The Snow On The Mountain - anyone know this jig, or know of it?

There are plenty of recordings entitled ‘Snow on the Mountain’, and a few called ‘No Snow on the Mountain’, none of which -- as far as I can tell -- is a jig. However, given the system of nomenclature (if you can call it a system) for Irish music, I see no reason why you should rename your composition, even assuming that the ‘Youtube member’ has the requisite number of brain cells to be right.

Don’t worry, it could be snow on a different mountain. There are loads of different tunes with the same name, eg. Fahy’s reel (50 maybe) or Fahy’s jig (20 or 30).
