Kings Galliard - Rocky Road to Dublin

Kings Galliard - Rocky Road to Dublin

I would love to get a list of the tunes in each set on this great old album that I purchased back in the early ‘90’s. Some of the cuts have a title of the first tune, but no liner notes on the rest of the set, ie. “Beardance”, “Lamentation”, “The Foxhunters”, etc. Does anyone have knowledge of the complete set titles? Many thanks, Art of Putney, VT

Re: Kings Galliard - Rocky Road to Dublin

I’ve been able to find some of the tracks on Youtube.

‘Beardance’ is only one tune, The Bear Dance https://thesession.org/tunes/4195 (although the 3-part version in the recording has not been posted here).

‘Lamentation’ is O’Carolan’s Lament for Owen Roe O’Neill https://thesession.org/tunes/7199

The Rocky Road to Dublin https://thesession.org/tunes/593 is followed up with Cooley’s Reel https://thesession.org/tunes/1

The Ashplant https://thesession.org/tunes/726 is followed by The Merry Sisters https://thesession.org/tunes/165

‘Boulavogne’ is, in fact *Boolavogue* https://thesession.org/tunes/5322 followed by The Humours of Trim https://thesession.org/tunes/88

I hope this helps.

Re: Kings Galliard - Rocky Road to Dublin

Correction: Their version of The Bear Dance (posted on YouTube as ‘Beard Dance’ 🙂) has not got 3-parts, just a different B-part from the common one. I have added a transcription (setting #6) in the tunes section.

Re: Kings Galliard - Rocky Road to Dublin

I think I’ve seen their version of “Beardance” recorded under the title “Dick’s Pig”…………..

Re: Kings Galliard - Rocky Road to Dublin

“O’Carolan’s” Dream is followed by “The Rakes Of Kildare”, and another jig which I can’t think of the name of right now.

The Foxhunter’s Jig is followed by the Foxhunter’s Reel.

Boulavogue is followed by a jig which I can’t identify……………..etc………….
