Paddy Canny on Ceili House

Paddy Canny on Ceili House

Those of you with an interest in the life & fiddle playing of Paddy Canny (1919-2008), should give a listen to this recent radio programme, Saturday 27 July: http://www.rte.ie/radio1/ceili-house/

His life & times… school, farming, learning the music, the fiddle, house dances, getting tunes from O’Neill’s, the Tulla, giving up the music, taking it up again..

A great portrait of a man who was obviously quite a character and had a lovely way with words.

Re: Paddy Canny on Ceili House

Heard this live last Sat and just listened again.. forget all the recent crap … ABC, guitars, train sounds - get a hold of https://thesession.org/recordings/163 or https://thesession.org/recordings/868 and listen to the real deal..

By way of explanation, Paddy Canny was married to Philomena Hayes, sister of P.Joe Hayes, father of Martin Hayes etc.

Interesting. I notice that your links only link to other links, unlike the recent ‘crap’ where you could actually experience the content of the ‘crap’. Immediately.

Oh, and did you really mean to put a link to ‘Dr. Drum’ in your profile?

Re: Paddy Canny on Ceili House

Yet again, a celebratory thread suddenly nosedives. Lighten up. Listen to some Canny. Follow a link or two. You can do it.

Re: Paddy Canny on Ceili House

Hussar’s meaning was quite clear, Jim.

Back on topic to the OP, thank you ever so much, day made!

Re: Paddy Canny on Ceili House

OK, I was a bit snarky there. I listened to the radio link - very good! Thanks, tafkath :)

Re: Paddy Canny on Ceili House

Glad you enjoyed it JDW, it simply struck me as an interview far more relevant to the heart of this music than several of the recent threads here which are rather further removed..

Re: Paddy Canny on Ceili House

Good call! Paddy Canny always brings it back home for me. Nice to hear his story in his own voice.
