Viola Recordings

I love the deep, dull sound of the viola. I’ve got Kevin Crawford’s “In Good Company,” on which he recorded a couple of sets with Martin Hayes on the viola. Are there any other good recordings of this diddley music on the viola?

Re: Viola Recordings

Macdara O Raghaillaigh (sp!) uses one on his CD, I think?

Re: Viola Recordings

Martin uses it in other recordings, Welcome Here Again being one.

Re: Viola Recordings

anyone know the name of the second tune?

Re: Viola Recordings

There was a video recently posted by Custy’s Music of Cormac Begley playing baritone concertina with his sister playing viola.

Re: Viola Recordings

Gary, that’s what I posted here! I believe you still use an old-fashioned mobile.

It seems that the viola was to classical music what the bodhran is to traditional Irish music.

Anyway, the second tune is called P. Joe Hayes’, as announced.

A few months ago Cormac joined one of the sessions I regularly attend, and I was captivated by his concertina playing. I saw quite a few Irish musicians here in Japan in the last few years, but he is the best so far.

Thanks for all the info, everyone.

Re: Viola Recordings

The second tune is also called Billy O’Rourke is the Boy.
