It’s Christmas time again?? Tunes appropriate for the season

It’s Christmas time again?? Tunes appropriate for the season

Herself being recently retired and having a bit of time on her hands, chased down a copy of Cherish the Ladies ‘A Star in the East’. Wonderful CD. Joannie Madden does a great job putting her albums together.

1. Greensleeves jig. Sesh shows two settings. Em and Ador. Which is more commonly used, or is there a ‘definitive’ version of the jig translation. I liked the pairing with Tongs by the Fire.

2. On the broader topic, aside from Chesnuts like Ding Dong Merrily on High and Wexford Carol, opening the floor to kind suggestions of things to throw into the inevitable Christmas season session mix where Christmas Cheer is expected?

thanks

Most Christmas carols lend themselves to traditional instruments quite well, once you transpose them into the proper keys. And this is one time where harmonies should be indulged in. Mix carols with tunes, like What Child Is This followed by Planxty Irwin. Throw Jingle Bells into a set of polkas. And if you are playing for an older crowd in the US, then yes, Christmas in Killarney will bring a lot of smiles and happy memories.
